SWEET LAKE ESCAPE
It seems like we had just enough time to come home from Loon Lake Haus to do a load of laundry, refill the coolers and we were off on another adventure! It seems busy, but it definitely keeps us out of trouble. This time we were headed out to Haliburton County to Sweet Lake Escape.
LOCATION
Located on beautiful Bitter Lake in Dysart et al, Sweet Lake Escape is a perfect spot for a girls weekend or for your family. The lake itself is almost 2km long and 0.6km wide. The lake is spring fed and clear with yellow perch, rock bass and lake trout with a maximum depth of 95 feet. The lake has 71 cottages and a close knit community. You'll definitely get to wave at your neighbours while spending the day on the dock.
ACCOMMODATION
The cottage sleeps 5 guests in 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and a common dining/living space. The kitchen is quaint and has all the amenities you might need to cook delicious meals. The living room has big windows looking out into the surrounding trees, giving the illusion you're in a secluded treehouse. The bean bag chair by the gas wood stove was the perfect spot to curl up for a morning coffee in your Terry Fox Joggers or a night cap. The open concept between the dining/living and kitchen meant no one was left out of conversation, even while cooking meals. The decor was perfect - I especially loved the bear, fox and raccoon canvas prints in the bedrooms and living room.
AMENITIES
Even though the cottage is great, we spent most of our time outside. There are 2 fire pits, one up top closer to the cottage and one down by the water. Unfortunately since there was a fire ban in place we didn't get to enjoy a fire, but we did sit out and enjoy a couple cocktails while over looking the lake. The dock is spacious and boasts 4 Adirondack chairs and a table, which we utilized for snacks. We we're truly crackin' cans + catchin' tans. There are 2 SUPs and 2 two-man kayaks. I could picture taking my kids out for a a tour in the boats. They would've loved this place.
Inside the cottage they do offer a 32" HDTV with Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+, Fire TV, Netflix as well as a Nintendo Wii - which could come in handy for those rainy days. There is a hot tub as well, which would be a perfect way to unwind after a long day outside (especially in the fall and winter!)
We had a truly amazing time at Sweet Lake Escape. We spent the day jumping off the dock and soaking in the tranquility of the lake. There was not a single wave or ripple - the lake was like glass! We shared a peaceful moment of silence on the dock and a loon came over and spent the moment with us. It was such a special guest to have during the moment we were having and made for a memory none of us will soon forget.
If you go to Sweet Lake Escape, check out the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre as well. It's a short drive from the cottage and it is full of information, exhibits and of course, a pack of wolves!
I can't wait to come back to this place with my family, they'll absolutely love it!
When you book your stay at Sweet Lake Escape, tell them Bear+Fox sent ya.
I wonder where we will go next...
