A common nickname for the Grey Jay, the Whiskey Jack is also know as the Canada Jay. The term "whiskey jack" also references the trickster figure from Indigenous North American folklore, particularly in Eastern Canada. This mischievous spirit, Wiskedjak or Wisakedjak, is often portrayed as a shapeshifter who plays pranks on people, a characteristic reflected in the bird's bold behaviour... and that's why we love them so much.
